Dinner Beyond the Sky | Sky 360 Restaurant Review

City lights and sumptuous fine dining, now that’s a perfect match! If you’re a sucker for a great view plus a phenomenal yet budget friendly food, Sky 360 is your go-to resto. Not to mention their revolving floor, thus, coined from the restaurant’s name. The wonderful view (most especially at night) and wonderful staff who were very accommodating and approachable makes this restaurant a great place for a great meal.

I decided to celebrate my birthday here since I have been hearing a lot of positive reviews about this restaurant, not to mention about the sky line view that is really breathtaking during nights.

calgary tower at night.

Reservation is hassle free. You just have to call their phone number (which can be seen in their website), leave your name, how many seats you need and what date and time you’ll be going.

Revolving floor that gives you a 360 view of the city 💛

The lounge is located at the top most part of Calgary Tower. We took the route in Stephen Avenue. Our journey on our way to the lounge is as good as our experience in the restaurant. YYC Downtown will always have a special place in my heart.

Scenic view from below!

We decided to start dinner at 6pm. If you are late, they give you a 15 minute grace period. We were 15 minutes late on the agreed time. If you’re just like us who are used in rushing and yet always running late, they would send you a text message just like I had. (see photo below)

As soon as we arrived, we were accompanied by the hostess to our table after confirming our reservation. They won’t look for I.D.’s not unless you are drinking of course.

Main Entrance

Our waiter was very approachable and friendly! He would always check us out if everything was doing okay, some chit chatting and some laughs. We chose the window seat to be able to have a grasp for that beautiful skyline view ❤

For starters, we ordered spinach and goat cheese salad which is made with beets, carrots and sliced almonds. (I will include in this review their dinner menu from their website).

Nothing special with the appetizer. It was good and you’ll notice that it’s freshly made. Their goat cheese are addicting btw!

For our main entrée, we had roasted chicken barley risottowhich is made with Spolumbo’s chorizo sausage, roasted peppers & spinach. The chicken was well done and you can see it smoking as they serve it to you!

We also had 12 oz of Alberta beef striploin that comes with buttermilk potato purée, asparagus,  cipollini confit, & rosemary. This was my favorite! We actually ordered two of these. One was well done and one is medium rare. The waiter suggested that we should not try well done because the meat becomes a little bit stiff if they’ll cook it well but we insisted because I don’t wat blood in my meat.

The difference of the two was the well done meat tastes a little bit saltier but the medium rare meat was juicier. I also loved the buttermilk potato puree that came with it. It’s creamy just as what you expect from a puree’s consistency. Although I wish they used salted butter because it felt like I needed a little bit of salt (salt bae where were you?!) when I ate it with my meat.

Meat comes great with red wine. We chose Mount Riley Pinot Noir for our beverage. It was quite expensive for a glass of wine because the other fine diner that we had was you could get a full glass for their price, we only got half. Oh well, I guess it depends on the quality of wine. I am not a wine enthusiast so I cannot tell if it’s worth it or not. As long as it’s red, I’m good!

Our waiter recommended their very own salted caramel gelato. We ordered two of those plus s’more cheese cake. Dessert are quite affordable yet yummy! It comes with good serving portion size.

They were very thoughtful to give a birthday dessert for someone who’s spending their birthday! I loved every bit of it ❤

I think for meat eaters, (Since I only got a chance to review about some of their dish), the food is decent. I’ve had better, but was expecting it to be a little bit expensive due to location and the prestige of it. Over all, I would definitely recommend this to a friend!

This was a lovely way to spend a Saturday night! How did you spent yours?

Cafe Alert! | Alforno Restaurant Review

Brunch, dinner, pastries? They got you covered! Feeling lucky to be able to have a review on one of the coolest cafe located at heart of YYC Downtown dubbed to be a hidden instagrammable place that offers a “hippie vibe”.wp-image-567609050jpg.jpg
A gold door that serves as an  entrance will welcome you to satisfy your cravings. Anyone can stop by for a fresh cup of coffee, sumptuous brunch or for its huge variety of sumptuous dessert!

Our group chose this spot to sit and do some planning about our upcoming Europe trip (I can’t wait!). The place is very pleasant & cozy. It’s perfect for students who wish to have that learning environment or for office workers who want to have a break from those paper works. During our visit, we’ve seen a lot of elderly clients gathered in the elevated function hall so I guess they offer reservation for those who wishes to have a private gathering or party.

Their matcha latte is perfect for this cold winter! Its creamy consistency makes me want for more!

Lemon pie meringue is not what I expected. I thought it would be a sweet dessert but it was sour. I don’t know if it was good or bad but at least I know it came from natural ingredients. ( I would appreciate if the staff would inform us about that hehe)

Aside from pizza, I can say that cheesecakes are their forte. We came in late at night but I can still say that their cakes are still fresh. It does not have gooey consistency unlike some other cheesecakes I’ve tried before. It’s not too sweet nor too blunt.

What I love about this bakery is that there is plenty to choose from in the bakery case to eat in or take home.

Their interior boasts a minimalist bar, marble counter, instagrammable corner and wood paneling.

Over all, I loved the place not just because of its minimalist design. The ambiance made by friendly staff, a wide variety of sumptuous (mainly Italian) food, and satisfying desserts are to die for! Be sure to check this place out!

Much Love, J

A Bittersweet Night in La la land

Disclaimer: Contains spoilers.  A quick review and some thoughts I had in mind while driving under the “city of stars”. lol. 😛

Love does not always win. Fast forward to 5 years after Mia (Emma Stone) & Sebastian (Ryan Gosling) where both of them achieved their goals while they long for each other. You’ll think that Mia had moved on since she has a kid with his new beau but we all have seen it in the last part of the movie in the bar where Mia and Sebastian gazed to each other with their lonely eyes. Mia chose to walk away and followed her beau. It seems that the two of them chose career over love and it led them to the right way. They’ve both achieved what they wanted in life but not in love. To be fair, they showed the “what could’ve been” parts if ever Mia and Seb got together. Continue reading “A Bittersweet Night in La la land”

Custom Eye Enhancing Extreme Shimmer Strips Shadow & Liner Review By Physician’s Formula

Hi everyone! First of all, this is my first make up review as far as i remember so please bear  with me 😀 I’ll be honest, I bought this product because of its packaging. It looks cute and feminine. Instead of the usual plastic packaging, they used black hard cardboard which is sturdy by the way.

I also love the color shade which is nude pink. Personally, I always prefer to wear browns and nude shades for my daily make up and this collection got all the colors I wanted. It easily caught my attention when I was browsing the make up section in the drugstore. I got this for about 15$. The palette is available in two versions, Nude or Smoky. I got the Nude version because I want to include this on my daily make up collection. Continue reading “Custom Eye Enhancing Extreme Shimmer Strips Shadow & Liner Review By Physician’s Formula”

Nip & Fab’s Dragon’s Blood Fix Hyaluronic Shot Review

Dragons Blood is a sap found in the Croton Lechleri tree in the Amazon. It works to heal and protect skin from harsh toxins that we accumulate everyday. It also promotes skin healing, inhibiting inflammation, thus reducing skin’s redness and promotes skin cell regeneration. This serum is combined with 50% hyaluronic solution that gives a “plump” appearance to the skin. 3-Item THEFACESHOP Haul Review! (WHITE SEED Brightening Toner, RICE WATER BRIGHT Cleansing Foam & Magic Cover BB Cream)

People will stare, make it worth their while.

                                                                                                          – Harry Winston

As a typical Asian living overseas, I am still craving for something traditional for my skin regime that is why I often go to shops where I could find something that could satisfy these cravings. The FaceShop’s  WHITE SEED Brightening Toner, RICE WATER BRIGHT Cleansing Foam & Magic Cover BB Cream caught my attention when I was doing my spring shopping two months ago. They were all new promotions so I had to try them. It was hard for me to roam around and find brightening products for my skin (because tbh, north americans doesn’t need brightening stuff). They were only the ones who sell these kinds of products so I ought to try them. I have been regularly using them for months. Let me share to you my review about these items.

First one is the RICE WATER BRIGHT Cleansing Foam.

It is enriched with a natural rice water solution with brightening properties. It cleanses skin without irritation. Rice water cleanser is beneficial to your skin. According to studies, it can treat acne and eczema for prolong use. It can soothe sun burns and is suitable for sensitive skin. Continue reading “3-Item THEFACESHOP Haul Review! Johnston Canyon Hike

Johnston Canyon is one of the most popular day hikes in Banff National Park. It’s accessible and perfect among people of different ages and groups.

During our visit, there were scattered trees laid down in the heart of the forest. We don’t have any idea if it is for restoration or for keeping the hikers safe from weak trees that might collapse anytime.

You’ll start to notice scattered tiny waterfalls and river surrounded by the forest itself as you walk deeper through the upper part of Johnston Falls. Continue reading “Johnston Canyon Hike”

Touch and Go (A book review)

Pain has a flavor…

Justin Denbe and his wife Libby Denbe was living the life anyone could dream about. Having a wealthy family, owning a construction business and blessed with a 15 year old daughter named Ashlyn, a gorgeous house. They really  have the perfect life anybody could ask for. Not until Libby caught her husband, Justin, cheating, their relationship went on the rocks. Trying to save the relationship, after their experimental nightout, they return to find three masked men in their home terrorizing their 15-year-old daughter, Ashlyn. The family is being kidnapped into a state-of-the-art penitentiary that Denbe’s firm built but was never put into use. As they wait to learn their captors’ motive, they struggle to be civil to one other regarding with their own issues. (Justin having an affair, Libby being addicted to painkillers and Ashlyn has a secret boyfriend). At the same time, corporate investigator Tessa Leoni, whose firm had been hired by Denbe Construction to handle security problems, arrives at the crime scene in the Denbes’ home, she finds scuff marks on the floor and Taser confetti in the foyer.  The family appears to have been abducted, with only a pile of their most personal possessions remaining behind.  No witnesses, no ransom demands, no motive.  Just an entire family, vanished without a trace. Both Leoni and the authorities are surprised there is no ransom demand. Then, there begins a thrill-filled adventure of finding of the perfect family which easily vanished without any trace at all.

Constant revelation and surprises in every page are expected. This is my first book review about the author, Lisa Gardner. I haven’t heard so much about her work. This is her first book I have read so far and I can say that I am amazed and thrilled in every page (just as what you expect in a thriller mystery book) although it felt like i am lacking something about the background of the story. That’s when i did my research I  found out this book is a sequel from its book one giving all about it’s characters. I am planning to read it’s book one. So far, I am loving this book.

Love, safety, family…it is all touch and go.

Why Do People Seek Change

“The secret of change is to focus all of your energy not on fighting the old but on building the new”

No matter how good or bad things are going, people constantly seek for change. Sometimes, we need change but often people tend to change even though they don’t need it.

  1. Wanting something more. We as human beings always want something better. Got the latest phone model? After a month or two, there’s gonna be a new model that you are going to dream about. You have to have that phone and of course you will buy it. The cycle goes on and on. It is like an addiction. It is natural in human behavior to crave to be the “best”. No matter how nice or how pure you are, there is at least one time that you thought your grass should be the greenest among all.  And then you’ll come across someone having a lot greener grass than yours. We do always look at the better. And most of the times, wanting something more lets you end up with the worse.
  2. Fed up of literally everything. There will be one of those days where you will feel you’ve had beyond enough. Whether from work, personal life, financial or social, or any aspect of life. You will feel tired and all of your energy sucked up. You literally feel nothing and then the idea of the need to change comes in. You’ll do something beyond unthinkable that might save you from your own pit of misery.
  3. The need for sense of control over your life. Who does not want to be in control? To live your life with control is a deep human being need. When you are in control, you feel a lot much safer because you feel less harm can be inflicted to you. This sense of control satisfies people of their needs.

“A loss of the comfortable state of harmony that we seek has been defined as shift towards either chaos or rigidity”

                                                                                                                              Siegel (2008)

Whenever we feel everything is out of control, everything seems to be in chaos. On the other hand, if there is sense of control, we feel powerful.

4. People just get bored. Sometimes, People reinvent themselves to get out of boredom. People seeks its way out of his mundane existence. Why? Because they are just bored. People wants everything in a snap of a hand. People are in for “instant” stuff. Most of the people are addicted on being spontaneous just to break the routine that they are having. Come to think of it, time is so slow when you are bored, right?

At the end of the day, it is up on the individual if that change might be beneficial or not. For sure, as cliche as it may seem, one thing that remains is change is inevitable.

Summum Bonum

What defines your happiness? Maybe a nice weather while cuddling in bed with your espresso and your favorite book or maybe it is when you get to spend time with the people you love the most. Some of us might define it just like any other dictionary says, a state of well being. Some might say happiness is just as same as dolce far niente or the sweetness of doing nothing. Oh, maybe an email from an overseas friend or tons of likes that you get from social media. Satisfying physiological needs? Passing grade? Having peace of mind perhaps? It would take infinity to identify things that makes us human beings happy but it only takes a second to know if you are happy or not. Just one question, are you REALLY happy? We went for a tour in a beautiful and emerging place of Calgary, AB. It was a sunny afternoon when me and my relatives went for the said tour. It was first time both for me and my sister but it’s the fourth time for my mom to go there. The tower is located at the heart of downtown so you’ll expect to see grand buildings around you. Upon entering the tower, you need to pay depending on what category of age you are included. Here is a guide of rates that they have dated at year 2015. Continue reading “Free Fallin’”

Iphone 6s Review

IMG_5755Just for the heads up, Im not an apple fanboy. I am in love with android’s capability of being customized according to your preference of choice. But I admit i always buy iphone products because they’re easier to use for a busy person like me who do not have time for some cool tweaks and stuffs (plus i feel i look better in iphone camera shots than the andtoid’s) I’ve been using iphone6 for months and i can say i am satisfied with its service. Many were shocked about its appearance having antenna lines at the back and bolder curves like its competitor the samsung phones. Continue reading “Iphone 6s Review”
