Dinner Beyond the Sky | Sky 360 Restaurant Review

City lights and sumptuous fine dining, now that’s a perfect match! If you’re a sucker for a great view plus a phenomenal yet budget friendly food, Sky 360 is your go-to resto. Not to mention their revolving floor, thus, coined from the restaurant’s name. The wonderful view (most especially at night) and wonderful staff who were very accommodating and approachable makes this restaurant a great place for a great meal.


I decided to celebrate my birthday here since I have been hearing a lot of positive reviews about this restaurant, not to mention about the sky line view that is really breathtaking during nights.

Reservation is hassle free. You just have to call their phone number (which can be seen in their website), leave your name, how many seats you need and what date and time you’ll be going.

The lounge is located at the top most part of Calgary Tower. We took the route in Stephen Avenue. Our journey on our way to the lounge is as good as our experience in the restaurant. YYC Downtown will always have a special place in my heart.

We decided to start dinner at 6pm. If you are late, they give you a 15 minute grace period. We were 15 minutes late on the agreed time. If you’re just like us who are used in rushing and yet always running late, they would send you a text message just like I had. (see photo below)

As soon as we arrived, we were accompanied by the hostess to our table after confirming our reservation. They won’t look for I.D.’s not unless you are drinking of course. 

Main Entrance

Our waiter was very approachable and friendly! He would always check us out if everything was doing okay, some chit chatting and some laughs. We chose the window seat to be able to have a grasp for that beautiful skyline view ❤

 

For starters, we ordered spinach and goat cheese salad which is made with beets, carrots and sliced almonds. (I will include in this review their dinner menu from their website).

 

Nothing special with the appetizer. It was good and you’ll notice that it’s freshly made. Their goat cheese are addicting btw!

For our main entrée, we had roasted chicken barley risottowhich is made with Spolumbo’s chorizo sausage, roasted peppers & spinach. The chicken was well done and you can see it smoking as they serve it to you!

We also had 12 oz of Alberta beef striploin that comes with buttermilk potato purée, asparagus,  cipollini confit, & rosemary. This was my favorite! We actually ordered two of these. One was well done and one is medium rare. The waiter suggested that we should not try well done because the meat becomes a little bit stiff if they’ll cook it well but we insisted because I don’t wat blood in my meat.

The difference of the two was the well done meat tastes a little bit saltier but the medium rare meat was juicier. I also loved the buttermilk potato puree that came with it. It’s creamy just as what you expect from a puree’s consistency. Although I wish they used salted butter because it felt like I needed a little bit of salt (salt bae where were you?!) when I ate it with my meat.

Meat comes great with red wine. We chose Mount Riley Pinot Noir for our beverage. It was quite expensive for a glass of wine because the other fine diner that we had was you could get a full glass for their price, we only got half. Oh well, I guess it depends on the quality of wine. I am not a wine enthusiast so I cannot tell if it’s worth it or not. As long as it’s red, I’m good!

Our waiter recommended their very own salted caramel gelato. We ordered two of those plus s’more cheese cake. Dessert are quite affordable yet yummy! It comes with good serving portion size.

They were very thoughtful to give a birthday dessert for someone who’s spending their birthday! I loved every bit of it ❤

I think for meat eaters, (Since I only got a chance to review about some of their dish), the food is decent. I’ve had better, but was expecting it to be a little bit expensive due to location and the prestige of it. Over all, I would definitely recommend this to a friend!

Basic Sugar Cookie Recipe

This is my first time baking cookies. I decided to make some just to  impress my loved ones last valentine’s day hehe.  I personally chose heart shaped cookie cutters because they looked cute!  If you have spare time of making these, you should try it!

Ingredients:

  1. 5 cups of all purpose flour
  2. 2 cups of refined sugar
  3. 4 eggs
  4. 2 cups of softened butter
  5. 2 teaspoon of baking powder
  6. 1 teaspoon of salt
  7. 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract

Cheesy Scalloped Potatoes

Homemade Cinnamon Croissants

  2. 1/2 ounce dry yeast
  3. 3 egg yolks
  4. 1/2 cup of shortening

Easy Baked Flan Brazilian Style

Count the memories not the calories.

This is a quick recipe for Brazilian Flan by simply using a blender. 😀

Prep Time: 20 minutes

Baking Time: 1 hour

Things you’ll need:

  1. 1 can of condensed milk
  2. 4 eggs
  3. 2 cups of milk
  4. 2 tablespoon of vanilla extract
  5. 1 cup of white sugar

My Edible Christmas Trees

Christmas is just around the corner and there’s a lot of gift wrapping, decorating, cooking and of course, EATING needed to be done 😀 While some people don’t have anything to do, I keep myself busy and squeeze in my “me time” in between my two jobs and studies. Here’s what I got in mind.

Since Christmas is getting near and I did not had any chance to join my mom in decorating our Christmas tree, I decided to make my own mini Christmas tree that I could eat. 😀

Blueberry Filled French Macarons Recipe

Just a heads up, this recipe is, yes, super easy to follow and affordable of course, but it is kinda lengthy to do so patience is a must!

French Macarons is basically made with a meringue cookie (because of its light and airy texture) plus a creamy fillings depending on the kind of flavor you want to choose. This version is a blueberry filled french macarons. 🙂

Dulce-ious Dulce de Leche Cheesecake Recipe

Take time to do what makes you happy.

How would you make a delicious dessert even more delicious? By adding some dulce de leche touch! I know, cheesecake itself is already awesome. It is nothing but a source of pure bliss (well any kind of dessert is). Now I tried to smash it with much more awesomness by adding   dulce de leche caramelized sauce into it! It is basically a cheesecake with dulce de leche sauce and of course everything is homemade! Let me show you how to do it in an easy step by step process.

Road to heaven / diabetes: 😀

  • 3 eggs
  • 1/2 cup of sugar
  • 3 package of  cream cheese (250g) each
  • 1/4 cup of melted butter
  • 1 and 1/2 cups of crushed Graham Crackers
  1. Preheat oven 425 °F.
  2. Crush Graham crackers and mix it with butter.wp-image-583536542jpg
  3. Press the mixture in a 9 inch spring form pan. This serves as the crust of the cake.(You can use spoon or glass or your bare hands to press the mixture firmly.)
  4. Pour on the condensed milk in a pie pan, cover it with foil and steam it under an inch of boiling water. Use the preheated oven from the step 1 to do this. Wait for an hour. (Caramelization process)
  5. While waiting, beat the cream cheese until soft then mix in the sugar.
  6. After an hour, get the  caramelized condensed milk, whisk it and get 1/2 cup of it. Leave the rest and put it in the fridge for latter use.
  7. Mix in the 1/2 cup of caramelized condensed milk onto the mixture of cream cheese and sugar. Blend well.
  8. Add the eggs gradually and whisk the mixture slowly.
  9. Preheat again the oven this time for 350°F.
  10. Pour on the mixture onto the spring form pan with pressed crust.
  11. Bake for 40-45 minutes.
  12. Let it cool. Chill it for minimum of four hours and serve it with the remaining caramelized milk. *Heat the caramelized milk in the microwave first before pouring it onto the cheesecake.

Other Ideas for topping:

  • any kind of fresh fruits
  • peanut butter
  • chocolate/nutella

 

Messy Indoor S’mores

Imagine yourself indulging in the warmth of gigantic bonfire, enjoying meaningful talks with your friends while you warm up those marshmallows and chocolates in a long stick. Warm S’mores is usually enjoyed around a campsite. But when PMS hits you hard in the middle of the night and you suddenly crave for sugar, you can still enjoy s’mores at home! *apparently*

You  need:

  • Graham crackers
  • Fluffy marshmallows
  • Chocolate bars / chips
  • Microwave

Steps to Hyperglycemia: 🙂

  • Place graham cracker in a microwave safe plate.
  • Place a marshmallow on top of the graham cracker
  • Microwave for 10-20 seconds until the marshmallow melts
  • Place a piece of chocolate bar on top of marshmallow. Press gently.
  • Microwave for 5-10 seconds.
  • Add chocolate chips.

*If you still feel sugar deprivation in spite of this oozing sweetness, don’t hesitate to serve with an Oreo ice cream. You deserve it! 🙂

Indian Chicken Wrap

We used to drink with our indian friend who happens to be fond of cooking as well.  This is one of her recipe that we learned from her. It is basically an indian wrap made with chicken. It tastes like curry but we added some ingrediemt not usually found on a regular chicken curry. This is so easy to make and it’s not gonna cost you that much. Beef Broccoli Recipe

We were college students when me and my partner went out for our first  movie but we only have enough money for the tickets. He was still courting me then. He was too straightforward to me admitting that he did not have enough money. ( Maybe it’s one of the things i liked the most about him. 🙂 ) I planned to pack a lunchbox for us to eat inside the cinema. I know it sounds crazy but the hell who cares hahaha. It was one of the most embarrassing yet unforgettable experience for us. I knew that beef broccoli is one of his favorite dishes so I tried to cook it for him. Beyonce Knowles Knows

Almost everyone wants to get skinny or at least shred those fats off in an instant but not everyone is willing to do the work. I believe in the saying “a moment in your lips, a lifetime in your hips.” It is pretty much accurate until i heard about the Lemon Juice Diet aka “The Beyonce Diet”. Well, it is really not a diet, it’s like a cleansing program that you have to stick with. I first heard this from my make up artist slash friend way way back and i being curious googled and tried it. It REALLY worked! But i have to say obviously it is not healthy. It is like having a drastic or crash diet. Anything made fast is not good..just like the fast food i guess? And Just like any other crash diets that i have heard, the rebound is actually pretty drastic too. At least, I was glad for a moment that i am able to experience “glory” and fulfillment after putting up and having commitment to this diet program. (Though it kinda felt like cheating lol)

You have four detox plan to choose from.

  1. Full Detox – you have to have this drink for 10 days straight. No solid foods, just the drink for 10 days. I tried this one and believe me it worked but i looked like a dried banana or something lol. No glow, i look dry and i did not have energy at my 10th day. I felt irritated and became moody as days passed.
  2. Relaxed Detox – there’s no such thing as a relax version when you’re detoxifying eh? but i’m gonna call this a relaxed version just because all you have to do is substitute EITHER your breakfast or dinner or BOTH with this drink. BUT you still have to avoid common fattening foods like sweets, fried foods, dairy products and booze. Boo.
  3. Once A week Detox – as the name suggests, you skip meals and have the detox drink on one each day week.
  4. Master Detox – “master” as it says, it involve TWICE YEARLY multi–day detox PLUS  detoxing once a week.

I know you’re curious about this drink so let me share you the ingredients and steps on how to make it. You’ll going to need:

  1. H2o 
  2. Lemon Juice 
  3. Cayenne Pepper 
  4. Organic Maple Syrup 

This detox drink is mainly made with just water with lemon juice. (2 tbsp of Maple Syrup in every half a pint of Lemon Juice and water), a pinch of cayenne pepper and you’re good to go!

Personally, I have good and bad insights about this diet. Good, because as it promised, it’ll gonna detox and help you to lose some weight. Bad, because of the rebound effects and obviously it is not healthy.
