The Power of Music

Music heals our soul and our body. It is a form of art in which we can express our emotions. Music also serves as universal language. Not only that, but it also affects our brain in many ways. According to studies, listening to music can reduce anxiety, depression and pain. It also improves cognitive functions thus enhance learning and concentration, and keep off the effects of brain aging.

Music is a piece of art that goes in the ears and straight to the heart.

Ever wondered why listening to music gives us goosebumps and chills? Listening to powerful music is only one of many ways in releasing “happy hormones” or endorphins . This hormone gives you a “joyride” and feeling of being high. Its effect on our body is similar to the effects of morphine, thus reducing pain. Music therapy is widely used in hospitals and medical facilities to reduce  pain. Studies shown that listening to music helps in reducing both chronic and post operative pain. It is also used to reduce the need for medication during childbirth. It gives the patient a sense of control thus, reducing the level of pain. Continue reading “The Power of Music”

Why Do People Seek Change

“The secret of change is to focus all of your energy not on fighting the old but on building the new”

Socrates

No matter how good or bad things are going, people constantly seek for change. Sometimes, we need change but often people tend to change even though they don’t need it.

  1. Wanting something more. We as human beings always want something better. Got the latest phone model? After a month or two, there’s gonna be a new model that you are going to dream about. You have to have that phone and of course you will buy it. The cycle goes on and on. It is like an addiction. It is natural in human behavior to crave to be the “best”. No matter how nice or how pure you are, there is at least one time that you thought your grass should be the greenest among all.  And then you’ll come across someone having a lot greener grass than yours. We do always look at the better. And most of the times, wanting something more lets you end up with the worse.
  2. Fed up of literally everything. There will be one of those days where you will feel you’ve had beyond enough. Whether from work, personal life, financial or social, or any aspect of life. You will feel tired and all of your energy sucked up. You literally feel nothing and then the idea of the need to change comes in. You’ll do something beyond unthinkable that might save you from your own pit of misery.
  3. The need for sense of control over your life. Who does not want to be in control? To live your life with control is a deep human being need. When you are in control, you feel a lot much safer because you feel less harm can be inflicted to you. This sense of control satisfies people of their needs.

“A loss of the comfortable state of harmony that we seek has been defined as shift towards either chaos or rigidity”

                                                                                                                              Siegel (2008)

Whenever we feel everything is out of control, everything seems to be in chaos. On the other hand, if there is sense of control, we feel powerful.

4. People just get bored. Sometimes, People reinvent themselves to get out of boredom. People seeks its way out of his mundane existence. Why? Because they are just bored. People wants everything in a snap of a hand. People are in for “instant” stuff. Most of the people are addicted on being spontaneous just to break the routine that they are having. Come to think of it, time is so slow when you are bored, right?

At the end of the day, it is up on the individual if that change might be beneficial or not. For sure, as cliche as it may seem, one thing that remains is change is inevitable.

Disruption of Attention and Memory related to Pain

There is a relationship between person’s chronic pain and person’s attention and memory. High level of pain interferes attentional processes during the completion of demanding tasks. Benefits of Aquarium Therapy

I was curious about the replicas of aquarium structures i saw when I visited National Midland Park. First thing that got my attention was all of them looked so real my eyes were feasting!

That tour gave me an idea about the benefits of human being  in keeping an aquarium aside from having an intangible pet. As I got home, i brought with me good memories, some good photos and some ideas on those benefits that we could have that I would be gladly to share  but not only that, i will also provide some sources to support my entry. Upon browsing, I gathered all of the following: Continue reading “Benefits of Aquarium Therapy”

Beyonce Knowles Knows

Almost everyone wants to get skinny or at least shred those fats off in an instant but not everyone is willing to do the work. I believe in the saying “a moment in your lips, a lifetime in your hips.” It is pretty much accurate until i heard about the Lemon Juice Diet aka “The Beyonce Diet”. Well, it is really not a diet, it’s like a cleansing program that you have to stick with. I first heard this from my make up artist slash friend way way back and i being curious googled and tried it. It REALLY worked! But i have to say obviously it is not healthy. It is like having a drastic or crash diet. Anything made fast is not good..just like the fast food i guess? And Just like any other crash diets that i have heard, the rebound is actually pretty drastic too. At least, I was glad for a moment that i am able to experience “glory” and fulfillment after putting up and having commitment to this diet program. (Though it kinda felt like cheating lol)

You have four detox plan to choose from.

  1. Full Detox – you have to have this drink for 10 days straight. No solid foods, just the drink for 10 days. I tried this one and believe me it worked but i looked like a dried banana or something lol. No glow, i look dry and i did not have energy at my 10th day. I felt irritated and became moody as days passed.
  2. Relaxed Detox – there’s no such thing as a relax version when you’re detoxifying eh? but i’m gonna call this a relaxed version just because all you have to do is substitute EITHER your breakfast or dinner or BOTH with this drink. BUT you still have to avoid common fattening foods like sweets, fried foods, dairy products and booze. Boo.
  3. Once A week Detox – as the name suggests, you skip meals and have the detox drink on one each day week.
  4. Master Detox – “master” as it says, it involve TWICE YEARLY multi–day detox PLUS  detoxing once a week.

I know you’re curious about this drink so let me share you the ingredients and steps on how to make it. You’ll going to need:

  1. H2o
  2. Lemon Juice
  3. Cayenne Pepper
  4. Organic Maple Syrup

This detox drink is mainly made with just water with lemon juice. (2 tbsp of Maple Syrup in every half a pint of Lemon Juice and water), a pinch of cayenne pepper and you’re good to go!

Personally, I have good and bad insights about this diet. Good, because as it promised, it’ll gonna detox and help you to lose some weight. Bad, because of the rebound effects and obviously it is not healthy.

Have you heard or tried this diet? Tell me your thoughts!8AF4641F4C2DB5DB41B0C875FF10AC56

Ever Have One of those Days? (Let’s Talk About Emotions)

IMG_5033

Feelings never make sense. They get you all confused. Then they drive you around for hours before they drop you right back where you started.

Emotions can be deceiving. One day you’re happy one day you’re grieving. People’s moods varies from time to time. It may be because of different factors. First one is gender. Women are known to be more emotionally reactive than men. Intense emotion like anger and love are usually common. Well for me, it really depends because some men are emotional too. What i observed is that while women are more reactive on negative emotions, men are more showy than women when it comes to pleasure and happy emotions like for example watching funny movie. Second is chemical factor. For example, for most of the women who’s having her period, they all have this series of PMS-ing.
