Dinner Beyond the Sky | Sky 360 Restaurant Review

City lights and sumptuous fine dining, now that’s a perfect match! If you’re a sucker for a great view plus a phenomenal yet budget friendly food, Sky 360 is your go-to resto. Not to mention their revolving floor, thus, coined from the restaurant’s name. The wonderful view (most especially at night) and wonderful staff who were very accommodating and approachable makes this restaurant a great place for a great meal.

I decided to celebrate my birthday here since I have been hearing a lot of positive reviews about this restaurant, not to mention about the sky line view that is really breathtaking during nights.

calgary tower at night.

Reservation is hassle free. You just have to call their phone number (which can be seen in their website), leave your name, how many seats you need and what date and time you’ll be going.

Revolving floor that gives you a 360 view of the city 💛

The lounge is located at the top most part of Calgary Tower. We took the route in Stephen Avenue. Our journey on our way to the lounge is as good as our experience in the restaurant. YYC Downtown will always have a special place in my heart.

Scenic view from below!

We decided to start dinner at 6pm. If you are late, they give you a 15 minute grace period. We were 15 minutes late on the agreed time. If you’re just like us who are used in rushing and yet always running late, they would send you a text message just like I had. (see photo below)

As soon as we arrived, we were accompanied by the hostess to our table after confirming our reservation. They won’t look for I.D.’s not unless you are drinking of course.

Main Entrance

Our waiter was very approachable and friendly! He would always check us out if everything was doing okay, some chit chatting and some laughs. We chose the window seat to be able to have a grasp for that beautiful skyline view ❤

For starters, we ordered spinach and goat cheese salad which is made with beets, carrots and sliced almonds. (I will include in this review their dinner menu from their website).

Nothing special with the appetizer. It was good and you’ll notice that it’s freshly made. Their goat cheese are addicting btw!

For our main entrée, we had roasted chicken barley risottowhich is made with Spolumbo’s chorizo sausage, roasted peppers & spinach. The chicken was well done and you can see it smoking as they serve it to you!

We also had 12 oz of Alberta beef striploin that comes with buttermilk potato purée, asparagus,  cipollini confit, & rosemary. This was my favorite! We actually ordered two of these. One was well done and one is medium rare. The waiter suggested that we should not try well done because the meat becomes a little bit stiff if they’ll cook it well but we insisted because I don’t wat blood in my meat.

The difference of the two was the well done meat tastes a little bit saltier but the medium rare meat was juicier. I also loved the buttermilk potato puree that came with it. It’s creamy just as what you expect from a puree’s consistency. Although I wish they used salted butter because it felt like I needed a little bit of salt (salt bae where were you?!) when I ate it with my meat.

Meat comes great with red wine. We chose Mount Riley Pinot Noir for our beverage. It was quite expensive for a glass of wine because the other fine diner that we had was you could get a full glass for their price, we only got half. Oh well, I guess it depends on the quality of wine. I am not a wine enthusiast so I cannot tell if it’s worth it or not. As long as it’s red, I’m good!

Our waiter recommended their very own salted caramel gelato. We ordered two of those plus s’more cheese cake. Dessert are quite affordable yet yummy! It comes with good serving portion size.

They were very thoughtful to give a birthday dessert for someone who’s spending their birthday! I loved every bit of it ❤

I think for meat eaters, (Since I only got a chance to review about some of their dish), the food is decent. I’ve had better, but was expecting it to be a little bit expensive due to location and the prestige of it. Over all, I would definitely recommend this to a friend!

This was a lovely way to spend a Saturday night! How did you spent yours?

Much Love, J

Cafe Alert! | Alforno Restaurant Review

Brunch, dinner, pastries? They got you covered! Feeling lucky to be able to have a review on one of the coolest cafe located at heart of YYC Downtown dubbed to be a hidden instagrammable place that offers a “hippie vibe”.wp-image-567609050jpg.jpg
A gold door that serves as an  entrance will welcome you to satisfy your cravings. Anyone can stop by for a fresh cup of coffee, sumptuous brunch or for its huge variety of sumptuous dessert!

Our group chose this spot to sit and do some planning about our upcoming Europe trip (I can’t wait!). The place is very pleasant & cozy. It’s perfect for students who wish to have that learning environment or for office workers who want to have a break from those paper works. During our visit, we’ve seen a lot of elderly clients gathered in the elevated function hall so I guess they offer reservation for those who wishes to have a private gathering or party.

Their matcha latte is perfect for this cold winter! Its creamy consistency makes me want for more!

Lemon pie meringue is not what I expected. I thought it would be a sweet dessert but it was sour. I don’t know if it was good or bad but at least I know it came from natural ingredients. ( I would appreciate if the staff would inform us about that hehe)

Aside from pizza, I can say that cheesecakes are their forte. We came in late at night but I can still say that their cakes are still fresh. It does not have gooey consistency unlike some other cheesecakes I’ve tried before. It’s not too sweet nor too blunt.

What I love about this bakery is that there is plenty to choose from in the bakery case to eat in or take home.

Their interior boasts a minimalist bar, marble counter, instagrammable corner and wood paneling.

Over all, I loved the place not just because of its minimalist design. The ambiance made by friendly staff, a wide variety of sumptuous (mainly Italian) food, and satisfying desserts are to die for! Be sure to check this place out!

2017 Journal Set Up (Rose Gold) & Michaels Haul

Last year, I got a kikki.K planner slash journal for my birthday gift to myself. This year, I decided to buy a new planner and start from scratch. I was hesitant in jumping from one planner to another because I felt contented with my peach perforated kikki.K planner. I had tons of fun memories with it but I guess, once you started to explore stuff about doing journal, you can’t avoid buying new cool stuff.

Let me share to you my first ever trip to Michael’s. I was lucky because the year just started and they’ve had everything on sale. I swear, the moment I set my foot into this place, my eyes feast with different art and craft supplies. It felt like heaven for a moment! I was glad, excited and ecstatic into idea of diving and hoarding unto these different craft supplies. Continue reading “2017 Journal Set Up (Rose Gold) & Michaels Haul”

Things You’ll Need:

Sugar

Olive Oil

Vanilla Extract

Food Coloring

Empty Container

The ratio for all the ingredients (except for the food coloring) is 1:1:1. This tutorial is for vanilla flavored lip scrub. You can also try this with different flavors. Just replace the vanilla extract with your desired flavor.  You can also have variety of colors. In this tutorial, I used pink. Continue reading “DIY Lush Sugar Lip Scrub”

A Bittersweet Night in La la land

Disclaimer: Contains spoilers.  A quick review and some thoughts I had in mind while driving under the “city of stars”. lol. 😛

Love does not always win. Fast forward to 5 years after Mia (Emma Stone) & Sebastian (Ryan Gosling) where both of them achieved their goals while they long for each other. You’ll think that Mia had moved on since she has a kid with his new beau but we all have seen it in the last part of the movie in the bar where Mia and Sebastian gazed to each other with their lonely eyes. Mia chose to walk away and followed her beau. It seems that the two of them chose career over love and it led them to the right way. They’ve both achieved what they wanted in life but not in love. To be fair, they showed the “what could’ve been” parts if ever Mia and Seb got together. Continue reading “A Bittersweet Night in La la land”

5 Awesome Thrift Store Finds!

Old but gold.

I’ve been always a fan of thrift shops in my younger years. Some people are not fond of buying pre-owned items, but it’s just like what they say “old but gold”.  There are lots of goods you can find in your trip to a thrift shop. If you haven’t gone to any i suggest you to try it! Unlike what others (my mom) says that almost all of the things they sell are either dirty, not functioning well or owned from already dead people (which is creepy btw), this is NOT entirely true. I had some stuff from different thrift stores and they are all in good working condition. It depends on who is using it and what is the item in the first place. You’ll not gonna buy them if they’re wrecked anyway.

Here are five common good items that you can have! Continue reading “5 Awesome Thrift Store Finds!”

Scribbles

I am really fond of reading quotes, short messages and phrases. I believe that the length of a message does not justify its depth of meaning. I started practicing calligraphy last February 2,2017. It makes me feel relaxed and calm. It lets me express my thoughts thru writing. I’ll update this entry from here and then for my new scribbles in the future. Here are some of my collections of scribbles. Pardon my writing i’m still learning 🙂wp-1486425743147.jpg

02/06/17 (3am) – I cannot sleep so i decided to learn modern calligraphy via youtube. It’s so much fun (& inexpensive). I recommend for you to watch youtube for beginners like me.wp-1486425864683.jpg

02/06/17 (7am) – After 4 hours of practicing, i amped up my writing game with applying water color. I used shades of pink, lavender and white. The rose gold journal in the background is my advance birthday present to myself (hehe).  I am doing a separate blog for planner / journal essentials and my journal lay out so watch for it. 😉

02/08/17 (10:11PM) – I’ve been listening nonstop to radio while decorating my workstation. Found some inspiration. PS

much love, J.

Custom Eye Enhancing Extreme Shimmer Strips Shadow & Liner Review By Physician’s Formula

Hi everyone! First of all, this is my first make up review as far as i remember so please bear  with me 😀 I’ll be honest, I bought this product because of its packaging. It looks cute and feminine. Instead of the usual plastic packaging, they used black hard cardboard which is sturdy by the way.

I also love the color shade which is nude pink. Personally, I always prefer to wear browns and nude shades for my daily make up and this collection got all the colors I wanted. It easily caught my attention when I was browsing the make up section in the drugstore. I got this for about 15$. The palette is available in two versions, Nude or Smoky. I got the Nude version because I want to include this on my daily make up collection. Continue reading “Custom Eye Enhancing Extreme Shimmer Strips Shadow & Liner Review By Physician’s Formula”
